Digital Markets Act
On 15 December 2020, the Commission adopted a proposal for a Digital Markets Act (“Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on contestable and fair markets in the digital sector”). The proposal – adopted at the same time as the proposal for a Digital Services Act – seeks to address the negative consequences arising from platforms acting as digital “gatekeepers” to the internal market. These are platforms that have the power to act as private rule-makers and that can function as bottlenecks between businesses and consumers. [ for more information ]

The guidelines are in force from the day following their publication in the Official Journal. The 2009 guidelines will still apply to unlawful aid granted while they were in force.
